Woman with Alzheimer's disease wanders from her home, dies in the cold
Authorities say a woman suffering from Alzheimer's disease has frozen to death after she wandered away from her rural western New York home.
The Genesee County Sheriff's Office tells local media outlets that the woman walked out of her home Thursday without her husband's knowledge. Deputies say the husband found her body Thursday night in the backyard of their home in the town of Byron, 23 miles southwest of Rochester.
Deputies say she wasn't wearing proper clothing for the weather conditions, which included temperatures in the single digits with the wind chill well below zero.
The woman's name and age haven't been released.
